A learned person no longer obedient to the status quo; playful, mischievous, the Rogue Scholar gathers his knowledge in an unconventional fashion and from various sources.

Adam Hardy, the brain and founder of Rogue Scholar Brewing, knew that there was more to beer than the Lagers dominating the market after tasting a real ale at the humble age of 18. Conjuring up small batches for his mates, Adam tweaked his home brewing skills over the next 10 years as he sought to create the perfect beer.

His passion for all things beer truly evolved whilst travelling to England and Germany and so he decided to complement his brewing technique with a tertiary qualification. 

In Edinburgh, he found he could complete a three-year correspondence degree in brewing and distilling, backing his existing skillset with a strong education. This ended up leading him to create the brand Rogue Scholar Brewing.

On May 13th 2016, the first schooner of Adam's commercially brewed beer was pulled and served in a pub in Newcastle.

Over the next four years, whilst continuing his career in brewing, as well as wholesaling his product to local pubs and clubs, the search for the perfect venue began. Wanting to combine his passion for live music and beer, the search ended in what is now the Rogue Scholar - Brewpub and Livemusic Venue in Newcastle West.

The Rogue Scholar offers 12 rotating taps, as well as four working hand pumps of ever-changing styles and flavours, all brewed on site at 4-6 Union Street.
